As Scotland's Centre for Excellence we provide a leadership role which supports decision makers in identifying ways in which volunteering can help them achieve their objectives. Our knowledge, tools and services seek to continually enhance the quality of the volunteering experience. By adopting an evidence based approach we can assist others in maximising the impact and opportunities of volunteering.

Our Vision

At the heart of our thinking is that people are an active power in society making a positive difference through volunteering. Through our strategic vision, we connect people's desire to make a positive difference with volunteering.


Leadership, Quality and Evidence

  • We provide Leadership to enable decision makers to identify the value and contribution of volunteering in achieving their  own objectives

 

  • We improve the Quality of the volunteering experience for individuals and organisations through our knowledge, tools and services

 

  • We share Evidence demonstrating the impact of volunteering with decision makers which informs their actions

Our Aims

By maximising the positive impacts of volunteering and adopting an independent leadership role, we aim to listen to individuals and stakeholders to champion their voice; to gather intelligence and evidence to inform and influence thinking; to innovate in key areas; to provide legislative, regulatory and support services and to work in partnership with the Scottish Government, key stakeholders and partners.

Our approach is rooted in the core values of Volunteer Development Scotland- integrity; openness; honesty; accountability;i nclusivenessand diversity and equality of opportunity.

These values underpin our thinking; our strategic focus and ultimately our leadership role in the volunteering world.


Our 2006-2009 Strategic Priorities

  • To maintain and develop Volunteer Development Scotland as a recognised Centre for Excellence in volunteering
  • To investigate, interpret and disseminate intelligence about the volunteering landscape in Scotland
  • To contribute to the four strands of the Scottish Executive's Volunteering Strategy (2004-2009), through innovation, best practice, legislative, regulatory and other services
  • To develop and build strategic relationships with stakeholders and organisations
  • To continuously develop and consistently implement excellent 'ways of working'
