Support, recognise and celebrate the contribution of your young volunteers or they might stop volunteering!

Young volunteer's time is precious to you and to them. Let's show them we appreciate it. There are lots of ways to do this - the most obvious is to tell them - but there are other ways or recognising their volunteering achievements. Volunteer Development Scotland has developed programmes which formally recognise the time and effort that young volunteers give. These programmes help young people to realise the skills and talents they are developing through volunteering. This formal recognition can help young volunteers gain employment or secure places on further education courses.

Here's just a few ideas on how to get started.

MV Awards

In partnership with the Volunteer Centre Network Scotland, we promote the MV Awards programme which recognises contributions of young people aged 16-25 with certificates for 50, 100 and 200 hours of volunteering. For more information and to sign up contact your local Volunteer Centre.

You can now register online for this programme via the MV Volunteering Passport. For more information about this contact us.

My Volunteering Passport

The MV Volunteering Passport is a free online personal resource for volunteers aged 16 to 25 where they can record, track and reflect on their volunteering experience. It is linked to the MV Awards.

With the MV Volunteering Passport, you will:

  • Clearly see the number of hours contributed by your MV volunteers to your organisation with your own personal login
  • Be able to approve your volunteers' hours through a linked electronic approval process thereby cutting back on the paper work associated with the awards
  • See the opportunities most favoured by your young volunteers
  • Be able to register and promote your opportunities for free on Volunteer Scotland - www.volunteerscotland.org.uk
  • Be able to offer personal development planning to your young volunteers, offering them more than an award by giving them an opportunity to reflect and understand their learning and achievements
  • See your young volunteers benefit from having a MV Awards portfolio which includes the Awards, volunteer log, journal and personal development plan
  • Receive full guidance on how to use the MV Volunteering Passport
  • Be supporting your young volunteers to continue to volunteer through use of their MV Volunteering Passport beyond the 200 hours Award
