Managing Volunteers


SCQF Level 7

Managing Volunteers is geared towards more experienced individuals who work with and manage volunteers in an organisation or community setting.  The award will explore specific issues and requirements within the management of volunteers.  Units for the award are drawn from the Advanced Programme of volunteer management learning opportunities.

Candidates undertake two of the units listed below:

  • Motivation, Retention & Development of Volunteers
  • Managing Youth Volunteering
  • Developing Volunteer Portfolios
  • Health & Safety and Risk Assessment in Volunteer Programmes
  • Developing Diversity within a Volunteer Programme
  • Creating Positive Volunteer Staff Relations

 Entry is that candidates are either:

1. In paid employment and working with volunteers
2. In paid employment and working with volunteers
3. In a volunteer setting and managing volunteers
4. Experienced and working with volunteers in a volunteer setting
5. Candidates will have achieved the Customised Award, Coordinating Volunteers at SCQF level 6
or
6. Candidates will submit a portfolio of evidence for Recognition of Prior Learning to evidence their knowledge, understanding and practice in the Coordination of Volunteeers

The cost of this award for 2009 / 2010 is:

VDS members £275 and Non members £350

Recognition of Prior Learning

This programme has a facility for recognition of previous learning of VDS learning opportunities from the advanced programme that map to the set SQA learning outcomes. Learning opportunities will have been delivered by Volunteers Centres across Scotland. VDS will also consider prior experience and learning undertaken through other providers where the learning is aligned to the National Occupational Standards for the Management of Volunteers.

The cost of Level 7, RPL route for 2009/2010 is:

VDS members £245.00 and Non members £290.00
