Coordinating Volunteers


Customised Award at SCQF Level 6

Coordinating Volunteers has been developed for individuals who work with and coordinate volunteers in an organisation or community setting and is suitable for paid staff anf volunteers.  Units for this award are drawn from the non-accredited Intermediate Programme of volunteer management learning opportunities. 

Candiates undertake the five units listed below:

  • Planning Strategically for Volunteer Involvement
  • Effective Recruitment of Volunteers
  • Matching Volunteers to Roles and Tasks
  • Increasing Volunteer Effectiveness through Training & Development
  • Supporting & Supervising Volunteers

Entry requirements are that candidates are either:

  1. In paid employment and working with volunteers
  2. In paid employment and coordinating volunteers
  3. In a volunteer setting and coordinating volunteers or
  4. Experienced in working with volunteers in a volunteer setting

Candidates who have previously attended the learning opportunties may enter through a recognition of prior learning route ( RPL).

Candidates may study for accreditation of individual units.

The cost of this award is:

VDS members £580.00 and Non members £640.00

Entry by RPL - VDS members £355.00 and Non members £395.00



Recognition of Prior Learning by VDS

This programme has a facility for recognition of previous learning of VDS learning opportunities from the intermediate programme that map to the set SQA learning outcomes. Learning opportunities will have been delivered by Volunteers Centres across Scotland. VDS will also consider prior experience and learning undertaken through other providers where the learning is aligned to the National Occupational Standards for the Management of Volunteers.To discuss entry via Recognition of Prior Learning contact Learning & Practice Services at VDS.
