Volunteer Development Scotland

As Scotland’s Centre for Excellence in volunteering, Volunteer Development Scotland aims to modernise volunteering in Scotland.
Our approach is built on 3 areas;

  • LEADERSHIP- We provide a leadership role to enable strategic partners to identify ways in which volunteering can contribute to their desired outcomes.
  • QUALITY- We enhance the quality of the volunteering experience by improving the practice of volunteers management.
  • EVIDENCE- We gather and share evidence which demonstrates the impact of volunteering to inform the actions of strategic partners. The Central Registered Body in Scotland, is an integral part of Volunteer Development Scotland and provides the essential service of free disclosures (police checks) to volunteers in the voluntary sector. We work in partnership with the Volunteer Centre Network in Scotland and with a wide range of organisations across all sectors.

Volunteer Development Scotland

What We Do
  • The Central Registered Body in Scotland -  we provide the essential service of free disclosures for volunteers in the voluntary sector as well as an extension of our services to the public and private sector.
  • Research and Evaluation - through a dedicated research, evaluation and policy function, we develop knowledge and understanding of volunteering which is relevant to researchers and policy makers
  • Learning and Practice Development - we offer a variety of effective training and development pathways in volunteers management, underpinned by a comprehensive theory base and aligned with relevant quality standards
  • Policy and Strategy - We aim to influence a wide range of policy makers in order to help create a positive environment for volunteer development.
  • Volunteer Centre & Local Partnerships - The services provided by the Volunteer Centre (VC) and local partnerships team aims primarily to build the capacity of the Volunteer Centre Network in Scotland.  We do this in a variety of ways including information provision to the network, managing the networks intranet, Volunteer Scotland website and distributing Scottish Government grants.
